my reggie, the 15 year old cat, has been going blind for over a year and now it's complete. he deals with it like it's just another day. my special needs baby. the whisker sensors are utilized more and he occassionally ALMOST walks into a wall. it's amazing how well he does. he finds his food, water and liter box in the same place they've always been. i must say that i have tested him just a little like rearranging a table to see if he'd walk into it. he did, my bad. he's not sad, he purr's, enjoys being brushed and likes to be spoken to.

reggie, the cat and myself are off tomorrow for a 3 week touring vacation to visit family and friends on Mount Desert Island near bar harbor, maine. we'll be driving up 95 and stop over crashing at francesca's pad on the upper west side. then saturday on to newport, rhode island and sunday arrive in bar harbor. the cat will STFU after 30 minutes of being on the road.

what i love most about the new set of wheels is it's 1989 technology. i mean you can fix these machines by turning a screwdriver. it isn't until 1990 that Mercedes went Japanese. it's already a classic at 17. yesterday, we drove to Middleburg to check on an animal and next month Francesca and i will be taking the old girl up to the backwoods of Maine and New Brunswick, Canada with an extended stop over in northeast harbor.

because it's on the wrong side of the street, the starbucks across the street from the old george washington university hospital will close. so when i'm at the ritz carlton, i'll have to walk 2 blocks west around the corner from trader jo's for the next closest starbucks. curious to see what takes it place or will it become yet another medical office.

last night i ran into the neighbor who's just completed gutting and condo converting an M street townhouse and carriage house. he's created 7 units of housing. he took me through the carriage house. the smallest is just incredible. for $299,000. you can buy and half assed and poorly designed unit in the carriage house which is a total of 660 sqft. the bathroom is almost as big as the combo living room/bed room. the kitchen is so small you can't open the cabinet door and the refrigerator at the same time. the dude's relative occupies one floor and ALL the other units are vacant. who in their right mind will buy a place like this? btw, the stairways are all 30 inches wide....a challenge for any movers.

no, i am not jealous. it amazes me what people will charge for crap and expect people to purchase it.

turbulent times in america coupled with cutting edge activism we celebrated the first anniversary of the stonewall riots when we marched from christopher and waverly up to central park. our friends who didnt march with us stayed inside their apartments and homes. many of the participants wore(still do) wear sunglasses for fear of being outed and other concerns(like your mother might see you or people from work) because back then many could be fired for being a homosexual. not in isolation, there were the acid takers, draft card burners and other activists. it became a gay pride event in the late 70's and then an excuse for t-shirt vendors and what it's become today. after marching in the first 3 parades it got a little boring. tonight i'll skip the local extravaganza and be thankful to all the ancestors who have come before me to advance the cause of liberty and justice equal under law.
