she loves her concrete

linda cropp keeps saying the cities recovery is" like freshly poured concrete. It really looks good. But if somebody gets in there and they don’t know what they are doing and steps in it before it is cured, it’s going to leave holes.”

um ,,wrong mrs cropp. i cant stand concrete. i like bricks, and stone

rugged old cross..dresser #2

btw i have not been inside the dollar store down near the tranny hooker corner(4th and L). somebody told me the TVs(transvestites) were all gone. if you NEVER go down 4th street they sure do appear gone. but we went through there during the last rain and they were hanging out under the trees and in the doorway of the senior citizens apartment building. for those who dont know me i take a backseat to nobody when it comes to civil rights and free assembly but loitering for hooking is another matter because it increases the potential for other crimes(pick-pockets, crack and crystal meth, assaults, car vandalism and of course purse snatching) ;-). even martha stewart wouldnt be seen at 4th and L with her Hermes tote. i cant imagine what it's like for the senior citizens living in that building. they cant come out of their building and walk and exercise without being hustled by the tranny hookers and their pimps. the police need to do something instead of waiting for the 'development' to take care of it. dispatch mental health people, try a comprehensive approach because having the police send a patrol car to sit idle isnt working because when the patrol car leaves they come back out of the woods.(the woods behind the row houses at 4th and L). whatever the police are doing now is not working. isn't there a neighborhood way out rhode island avenue NE that would host this crew? :-)

Portuguese collard greens

i was thinking about the UHOP the cape verdian/Portuguese influence of the religious service. it must be kind of like island catholic new orleans style religion but for all people. he's an old recipe from new england:

lots of chopped onion
4 tb olive oil
2 lbs of collards chopped
pinch of kosher salt
lots of pepper
vinegar

Saute the onion until it begins to brown. Add the collards & salt & cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until the collards are tender, or about 15 minutes.

douse with vinegar at the table

flipflop or when i'm mayor

fenty says he wont raise taxes when mayor but last week he voted to raise em. somebody should tell him he's gotta be consistent.

air rights

i keep hearing at neighborhood meetings about linda cropp and selling the air rights over interstate 395. first of all, i would like to ask how much of 395 she would like to cover... say from the jefferson memorial all the way to new york avenue? there was a plan to drop the stadium ontop of 395 south of the mandarin oriental hotel. is that what she's talking about? what's next for mrs cropp, selling the air rights over 295? LOL. this is election year funny talk.

how dare you ask the clergy to apologize

now the pastor is upset because the mayor asked another pastor to apologize for bigoted remarks. so what is the mayor going to do? remove the bigoted clergy from an advisory council. let me tell you what i would have done. i would direct parking enforcement to that church on friday, saturday and sunday and enforce the parking laws of the district of coulmbia.

stanley kunitz

one of my favorite gardens in the world is in the westend of provincetown. that's quite an admission considering my fierce loyalty to the eastend of town. it's on commercial street just beyond point street on the right side. since the 1960's elise asher and stanley kunitz's had this phenomenal wild flower garden. somebody said he was the poet laureate of the united states. he lived to be 100 and died the other day. there will be a lovely memorial service at the art association this summer. they both loved that little fishing village by the sea. which by the way it is hardly no more. it's more like condo-lezbian now. here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/15/AR2006051501665_pf.html or here: http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/1147779071265270.xml&coll=2

more on mayoral forums

y'all should really get to one of these mayoral forums. you can see the entire spectrum of a candidates personal style. like last weeks gertrude stein forum. while the focus was on gay/lesbian.bisexual/transgender issues, the personal dynamics was more telling and clearly entertaining. i actually laughed in several instances. it was neat to see michael brown in action rattling all the current office holders of whom i have seen on channel 16 or 13. also maria johns, is alot smarter than a few of the others. i know some of you love your linda cropp, the neighborhood activists love adrian fenty and somebody must love vincent orange. also, some guy i never heard of was there...bald dude name milligan or something. the gertude stein endorsement is valuable only because it is a club or party regulars and alot of them serve on boards and commissions appointed by linda cropp. so dont be surprised if she gets this endorsement. but go to hear the other people and compare mrs cropp to them.

401 m street nw garbage heap drama

for several months we've been seeing this drama unfolding. this building has been in decline for years. the current owner spray painted the nice brick corner house with chinese glossy red spray paint. in case you dont know i take a short walk each morning about 7 30 am because getting out earlier really isnt safe until 7 or so. i've been following this confusion down on the corner semi-regularly. there was a dumpster in back that has been filled to overflow capacity since before earth day last month. yesterday i noticed the dumpster and the porti-john were removed. but all the trash IS STILL THERE. said to myself WTF is going on? then i see this street transexual hooker on top of the heap. LOL. i swear to God i'm not making this up. long story short, the neighbors are on the case and sick situations like this are bringing neighbors together.

chicken-aubergine(egg plant) soup

CREAM OF EGGPLANT SOUP

1 lb Eggplant diced skin on
2 oz Butter
1 md Onion diced
2 Stalks celery, diced 1
t Curry powder
1 pinch Thyme and basil each
4 c Chicken stock
1 cup Potato, diced
1/2 cup Cream
Salt Pepper
Diced tomato,
Sprinkle a little salt over the eggplant and leave to stand for about 30 minutes. rinse
This removes any bitter taste which would spoil the soup. Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the onion, celery and eggplant
Saute slightly Eggplant absorbs butter very rapidly so you may have to add a little more or the vegetables will stick
Add the curry powder and fry to release the flavors
Add thyme, basil, chicken stock and the potato
Cover and simmer until the vegetables are quite soft, about 30 minutes
add the cream. This soup keeps well for several days. However, if you intend making it beforehand and keeping it, only add the cream when you reheat it. It thickens as it stands, but it can be thinned with a little milk.

i'm having this african food thing this week. it helps with the diet.

senegalese soup

i first prepared this soup 20 years ago and it's one of my favorites. it is posted here today because we're reminded that jack evans and mayor williams are on a trade mission to africa as we speak:

Ingredients
1
Tablespoon butter or margarine
2
Tablespoons finely chopped onion
3
Tablespoons all-purpose flour
2
teaspoons curry powder
2
cans (14-1/2 oz. each) chicken broth
2
Tablespoons fresh lime juice
1/4
cup honey
1
cup whole kernel corn, fresh or frozen
1
cup whole milk
1/2
lb. cooked bay shrimp

Directions
In medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion; cook and stir 3 to 5 minutes or until onions are tender. Stir in flour and curry powder; cook and stir 1 minute. Whisk in chicken broth, lime juice and honey. Bring to a boil; stir in corn. Reduce heat and simmer 3 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in milk and shrimp. Season with salt, if desired. Transfer soup to bowl; cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours, until well chilled.

messed up statistics

we live in PSA 308 across the street is PSA 101 and two blocks away is PSA 307. the statistics released by Lt. Neal are not realistic because crime is way up in this neighborhood. that police station in our ANC is a local joke. all the police do there is park cruisers and baracade themselves inside. i have not seen a cop walking around here in 10 years. we see cruisers flying by but they dont stop and talk to locals. but when i go to logan circle the cops atleast speak to people. i dont expect and request a hug from a cop. we welcome the council funding 100 new police officers. lets hope they get assigned to 308 and give tommy barnes some help.

ps. oh, and the mayor is on a trade mission to africa ::::eye roll::::

mayoral forum

tonight at the Human Rights Campaign headquaters was a mayoral forum for the district of columbia. marie johns came away the leader of the pack. michael brown clearly the most lively of the group. vincent orange was ok. as was adrian fenty. mrs cropp played panderer to those in the group who are satisfied with the crumbs from the head table. turn out will be the key and of course the endorsement of the washington post. today, it's a race between fenty, cropp and johns.

the other two would have been great with fruit added or something but
Double H was the best by far. lots of vinegar.

my only question is: what does the H represent? :-)

drunk patrick kennedy

and patrick kennedy was getting drunk at Hawk & Dove and got into his car and drove. why didnt that idiot walk or take a cab? those stupid kennedys getting drunk and going for a drive. if patrick kennedy lived in shaw his ass would have been locked up and in central booking fast.
of course he got preferential treatment and shouldnt have.

historic trail markers

shaw main streets have made a FABULOUS contribution to the neighborhood with these trail markers around the neighborhood. why ANC voted no confidence in shaw main streets strikes me as petty. and makes the commissioners who support such motions look like jealous fools.
