Stonewall Inn: a customers rememberance

we were not present when the queens in sheridan square park told the cops to go fuck themselves. the stonewall inn was a typical mafia run club. the air conditioning wasnt working good, lots of people on acid or high on pot. the lighting in the joint was blacklight. some old man in his thirties was working the door. the windows were boarded up and painted black. funny when we go back now and see it all cleaned up with a historic plaque. oh there were the trailer trucks where you could go for some action down along west street, and the abandoned piers. there was a coffee house down on the corner and i met some fabulous street queens there. a friendly chatty bunch. very antimated and theatrical. lots of laughs. holly woodlawn was one of queens names i remember. this was before the andy warhol movie gave her 30 minutes of fame. oh there were little gay clubs all over the village. the pink teacup, the silverdollar were all there before ty's and bra's and girdles. i'll write about the mineshaft, the anvil and the everard baths another time. LOL. but back then all the little bars had backrooms where you could go and get fondled or get off. that was amazing. a real sexual revolution. oh and i must mention the goldbug on west 4th street. that was motherbar.

instant karma

hannity and colmes, scarborough country, abrams report, hardballs...you know the ones. whenever they have the screaming match arguments i have the sound clicked to mute. who finds these idiots screaming at each other entertaining? just filler in between commercials and cheap low production entertainment. oh and that bitch ann coulture, she does make me laugh and if she dies suddenly tonight alot of my friends will say good.

the first gay pride parade nyc 1970

yes, we were there! it really wasnt a very well organized parade. i would say it was more of a civil rights march which over the years has become a parade. oh there were other protests and demonstrations at the time, larger and better organized. mobilizations against the war in cambodia, laos and of course vietnam. we were tear gassed at the atomic bomb protest march on august 6 1970. but the gay pride parade was really just a bunch of hippie activists, i would say 50,000 at most. marching DOWN 5th avenue to washington square and then west to waverly place(next to sheridan sq park). it wasnt very big and the parade was better organized in 1971 when we marched UP to central park from waverly place. that made more sense since it was easier to assemble in the village. after the first gay pride was over we went over to gregory's at 88 bleeker and watched the cable channel replay. i remember how uptight some of the guys there were. all worried their employers and fellow employees would see them marching for gay rights. remember at the time new york state had sodomy laws and wasnt until the early 70's when they were changed. i remember some lesbian librarian from philadelphia barbara gittings or something like that. i thought she was old but she could have been 32. lol anyway, she was(is) a real gay/lesbian rights advocate. the boyfriend at the time was really a hunk and we couldnt wait to get out to the pines to smoke pot or take LSD and do other things for hours.

vincent orange...not good enough

we went to The United House of Prayer for All People last night and attended a meet and greet for Vincent Orange. He will not win the democrat primary but whatever he chooses next he'll be ok because he's a lawyer and certified public accountant already. he's for limited gay rights and i'm not for anybody's limited civil rights.

if the fire department crew doesnt want to their jobs...fire them! what is the freakin problem?
some of these government employees are worse then the bad welfare recipients the republican use to talk about. just do your job or get the hell out.

respect and acceptance # 2

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060618/ap_on_re_us/episcopalians we win one!

francia v rep de corea

GO FRANCE!!!

happy father's day!

to all the men out there! atleast here's one day the dikes cant steal from us! oops my bad ;-)

respect and acceptance

well it seems some aspect of the episcopal church is headed in the right direction. an apology and recognition of doing nothing is a good first step. now they must figure out the reparations piece of the puzzle. the government played the biggest part in this painful past and hasnt step up to the plate and addressed it. soon it will be talked about and discussed.

it's like the gay marriage debate. to tolerate a gay person isnt enough anymore. acceptance is the responsible standard. repect and acceptance. settle for nothing less.

gay/lesbian democrats drink the cropp koolaid

the surprise was the slim margin of victory. you gotta wonder what's up with the when 62% of those member voting support a candidate who doesnt support gay marriage. please dont give me the HRC equality bumper sticker. the turn-out was mostly annie's restaurant types. bad dye jobs. mostly white gay 50 yr old men.mostly gov employees. lots of board and commission members. plenty of polyester blend clothes, the fashion police would have had a field day and not many creative types. it took 2 ballots. not a good sign for a candidate who's been in elected office for 30 years to fail on the first ballot. stacked deck. could be the titanic. stay tuned.

michael brown said some weird stuff about what he saw in Dupont circle bars after the march. vincent orange was too late to pitch to the crowd. marie johns and adrian fenty got fewer votes than i would have expected given that they support marriage equality and mrs cropp is opposed.

sharon ambrose looked out to lunch. marie johns had the best fashion going on. and richard, marie johns son was absolutely precious endorsing his mother. that was the best.

daddy grace, the new bedford years

http://www.newbedfordhistory.org/

"when daddy grace lived in new bedford he painted his huge mansion red, white and blue. The home was on County Street. It was demolished and a school stands on that site. The neighbors were appalled at the color choice. The other mansions on this same street were rehabbed.

Daddy Grace started his church here in New Bedford. It was also red white and blue.. but a brand new church was completed here a few years ago.As a teen the restaurant was our "spot".One of his homes abuts my property and it is a stone mansion bequeathed to his nieces. It sits back on a large piece of land and DWARFS our modest homes."

it sounds like his origional church really was for ALL people.

nantucket, provincetown...who's next?

http://www.ack.net/CultureShock060806.html

and in provincetown the high school is closing. all the families moved away because of the taxes and the cost of living leaving the town to the dikes and gays. the kids now have to bus to eastham for school 20 miles down route 6. the provincetown board of selectmen are all gay or lesbian so dont believe andrew sullivan when he claims provincetown is virtually normal.

VACE

if you're buying the frozen dough ball at Fresh Fields for 4 dollars a rock you should trek over to VACE on conneticut avenue for 2.50 you can get the same ball. buy a couple for the freezer and you're good to go :-) they are located across from the uptown theater at cleveland park metro stop and one block north of the kennedy-warren so that makes it the 3200 block of conn ave. btw everything else at VACE is over priced.
