stanley kunitz
one of my favorite gardens in the world is in the westend of provincetown. that's quite an admission considering my fierce loyalty to the eastend of town. it's on commercial street just beyond point street on the right side. since the 1960's elise asher and stanley kunitz's had this phenomenal wild flower garden. somebody said he was the poet laureate of the united states. he lived to be 100 and died the other day. there will be a lovely memorial service at the art association this summer. they both loved that little fishing village by the sea. which by the way it is hardly no more. it's more like condo-lezbian now. here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/15/AR2006051501665_pf.html or here: http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/1147779071265270.xml&coll=2
