Well...Warhol's portraits were supposed to celebrate fame. At the time he wanted to make a portrait of the most famous person in the world, and he figured out it was Mao (if you go by numbers, everybody in China knew who Mao was and everybody in the western world, so...mathematically it was Mao). That's pure Warhol. You're not supposed to care that Mao's a mass murderer. Just don't look below the surface of the image.
