JURY DUTY

this isn't the standard jury duty notice. this is for a specific trial that will last 4 weeks and begin after Nov 27. what govenment official is going to on trial after Thanksgiving that will last until Christmas? the standard jury duty notice is for superior court. this court is the US District Court.

My employer will LOVE hearing about this.

Ouch. You can ignore it and maybe it will just go away. I've served on a grand jury, which was five weeks, and petit jury for two days, but ignored the last summons and never heard from them. I don't think they are aggressive about going after people who ignore a summons .. but then, some employers are very supportive. Alternatively, you can say that that you have a prexisting travel/vacation and can't make those dates and asked to be rescheduled, and perhaps you'll be moved into a regular jury. However, that puts you on their radar.

anon- that advice is irresponsible & illegal.
richard - wow 4 weeks!, i wonder who it is :) shhh cant tell...
you may be able to make an argument for conflict of interest or hardship because you are running for office. is it one of those things where you have to call in every day, they might need you? Also i know with petit jury you can defer once or twice if you call them...

Hardly. DC is one of the few places in the nation that will call people every two years without fail. I've served. Last time I ignored the summons and with good reason. People shouldn't have to serve on a grand jury more than once in 10 years.
